Q1: In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
0:09 is the part where the story of the music video
starts. The artist is standing up to the
beat of the music. The artist is looking at us therefore giving us the
indication that we are noticed, making us feel that, she is sort of telling the
story to us. Even though our music video is pop genre we did not portray the
artist in the video by having her dress as a pop artist which is usually rich
and colorful clothes, instead we decided to make the background colorful, and
the story itself that is happy portrays the pop genre.
0:17 is the part it is mentioned about the faces and we have
the faces come in the shot according to the beat of the song. There is a
relationship between the music and visuals, the faces are lip synched with the
lyrics of the song. The artist is also facing sideways, which changed from
looking at us at the previous shot to walking this is how the story she tells
blends in with the video.
About 0:32, is the part “for
an hour and half” The music is related to visuals again we got this idea to use
the clock in order to make it sort of unique. In the lyrics its quite obvious
the artist talks about the time but we amplified the idea by using the clock.
0:41 again the visuals are related to the music, the artist
is now flying. The idea of the artist is again amplified by birds carrying her
to the sky. The background is changed from plain white who doesn’t give any
particular emotion to more bright background (blue) this is the indication of
her being happy. The birds are also another factor that displays happiness.
The artist is back again at the park where she landed with
the balloon that the bird gave to her and then popped. We decided to make her
land with the balloon as it seemed more appropriate, also whenever the artist is flying with the
birds it is during the chorus of the song.
This part cuts from the park scene. This is probably hardest
to interpret in the whole video. But what this part is supposed to portray is a
moving train right past her, notice her hair moving when she is facing
sideways. One problem it might be hard
to interpret is that the shot is quite slow. We were going to make it look more
like a train maybe drawing more or adding effects however we didn’t have enough
time to draw it and we wanted to keep the effects to the minimum so it looks
more like a realistic stop motion.
This is the part of the song where we have a line running,
and part of it is the interpretation of the lyrics and the visuals. This part
of the video is quite slow and I feel it has a good effect when the lyrics and
the visuals are synched at this part, which creates ambiguous feeling.
The continuity from the “line shot”, this is the part where
we go back to the park again except its night time. We have the background
re-drawing itself which is another part of the video that gives the audience an
ambiguous feeling.
Then we have a zooming in shot to her face to give a close
up, and make it a more direct contact with the audience making them feel a bit
more like what she is feeling at the moment.
Then we have the close up of her face cut to this shot, we
thought this might be quite funny and make the video seem a bit happier at the
end.
Throughout the video there aren’t too many close up shots of
the artist. The only few close ups of the artist are at the end of the music
video, we did this to make the artist seem a bit more unfamiliar and stand out
more and in the end when there is a close up of her the audience would remember
her face a bit better.
Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From our rough cut feedback we picked up quite a few mistakes we made and improved upon for our final version of the sequence. For example the part with the clock, we sped it up in the final cut because it was way too slow and looked vague. We also improved upon the colour errors some shots had, for example on some parts of the video transitions we had really bright light on the shot, therefore we reduced it for our final version of the video. Another part we edited was at the start of the sequence were the artist is walking, the audience that gave feedback pointed out to improve the walking of the character in the park because it seemed kinda strange and improper. What we did was sped up the shot and it actually wasn't that noticeable in the final version. Also around 1:01 of the video the scene where the train is going past the character isn't quite obvious, however the audience got the part of it which was wind blowing her hair, previously this part of the video was too fast so we slowed it down and it seemed like the majority of the audience understood what was going on. Throughout the video there were quite a few parts that were too slow, and later on we sped them up or changed the transition a little bit. Also we got suggested to re-film the clock scene and some walking parts by one of the groups, however we didn't do it as we did not have enough time but we tried to correct these bits by cutting the shot earlier to the next scene.
We got also quite a lot of positive feedback on some parts of the video but still decided to improve them. For example the part of the video where we have the part of the lyrics running through the screen "try try" we slowed this part down, as it seemed appropriate because the rhythm of the song slowed down at this part as well, therefore it turned out to be quite well synced together. The audience seemed to notice that it took time to do all of the colour correcting and in the end they liked the pictures we did.

Q4: How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
We used three software programs in the making of our
music video. One of them was the I Stopmotion which helped us capture the
images for the sequence, the program is easy to use therefore we were able to
take our photographs quite quickly. However one of the problems we had was the
camera turning off occasionally therefore if we tried to turn it on again we
usually moved out background which was a pain adjusting it back the way it was
before.
Another piece of software we used was the final cut, more
complicated than the iStopmotion, however it provides a lot more as well. We
managed to get all of the sequence color corrected without any problems. Only
problem that we did have was the correcting transitions that we made ourselves
in the iStopmotion by taking photographs therefore it was quite difficult color
correcting the part as we would have edited two different scenes. We used final
cut to do all the transitions, cut up shot, and get rid of the parts that we didn’t
want in the video. We also used this part of software to speed up some parts of
the sequence which seemed too slow and slow down the parts that seemed too
fast.
We also used photoshop for our dig pack and the magazine
advert. Without the photoshop software we wouldn’t have been able to do these
things at it helps us to do a great deal of things. Such as using different texts that would make
a digi pack look professional. We added quite a few effects such as color
dispersion effect or blur to our magazine adverts. We moved the text around on
the digipack and tilted the title on the magazine advert to make it seem more
ambiguous and appealing.
